The Jason Voorhees. This is Smart-FX's version of Jason the iconic slasher from the huge franchise Friday the 13th. The face of Jason originally sculpted by Keith Larkin of This is Scary was brought to the Smart-FX studio where both Tony and Keith moulded and casted it under the name of Skitzo Skins, a mask making business the both of them were running. Tony then cleaned, prepped and painted it. This became part of the costume by accident, as the original sculpt was not intended to be a Jason mask. But seem to look and feel like the iconic slasher. The original design of Jason from the original Friday the 13th franchise shows Jason deformed. As much as this was the iconic look for the character i felt that this was not the look i would like for when i portrayed Jason in cospaly. I see Jason as an unstappable zombie like killing machine. with serious attitude. The character needs to be both big and intimidating to look at. I felt the original deformed look of Jason kind of reminds me of the loveable character from Goonies which one of the characters (chunk) befriends. I guess everyone has their own interpretation of their favorite movie characters.

Building the character.

Borrowing favorite elements from Mortal Kombat X, Jason takes Manhattan, New Blood, and Jason X, i gradually started adding to the costume. The chain around my neck originally was made of plastic which has now been replaced with a real heavy duty chain. The sound of the chain when walking adds to the effect. The Brace around my neck was taken from a shackle and chain prop you can buy from most Halloween and joke stores. The T shirt is double layered, a navy t shirt underneath with a ripped brown t shirt on top. The ripped brown t shirt also has the custom back appliance produced by myself attached to the t shirt. The gloves are thick biker gloves which was originally used for my Terminator cosplay. The jeans are standard jeans with rips and burn holes. The Jacket is an army style flak jacket which i customised using latex, a heat gun and various automotive spray paints. The hockey mask is a generic one. Purchased and then i customised to get the right look i wanted. Jasons machete again was a purchase and customised with a leather strap handle with weathering and gore added to the blade. The AXE is a real log chopping heavy duty axe with added gore.

The golden rule of my character...NEVER break character. Nor reveal who i really am. I feel this adds to the illusion and gives my version more of an edge. You want Jasson?? you got him!!!

Stats

I feel Jason should be built like a tank!. I have built myself to what i feel is a great look and size for Jason..Big arms..Big shoulders and big chest..

  • My arms are currently 19.2 inches.
  • Chest is pushing 56"
  • Height (when in character) 6.5FT normaly 6.2ft
  • Weight 18 St
  • Waist 35"

The future for The Jason Voorhees

I will be looking at re sculpting a new version of the mask to further enhance the look i would like to achieve to include more of a decaying zombie look with more attitude. The neck also needs to be slightly extended to sit under the brace which both Keith and myself discussed. Again as this was not originally intended for a Jason costume let alone to sit under a neck brace. I will also be adding to the costume with additional wounds and maybe an exposed rib cage, an exposed knee joint and knuckles. I will also be looking at using a heavy duty metal neck brace.
