I have always enjoyed drawing from the age of 11. I stared out my window one wet Sunday afternoon and decided to draw the carpark outside. This was my first attempt at drawing and although i didn't quite get the angles right on the cars i did have a good go at trying to replicate the angles and proportions. When i was done i showed my mum who was very impressed. This encouraged me to keep on going. I then started to copy other things such as cartoon characters and movie characters. When i went to secondary school i delved deeper into art and illustration. It was unfortunately at this time i under went a routine of constant bullying so every lunch time to avoid the bullies i would head straight to the school library and spend all my time drawing. It was also at this point the bullies followed me into the library. But after seeing what i could do with graphite and paper, they seemed to ease off. Although it didn't stop i seem to have gained some sort of respect. Even though i was now being threatened to draw a picture or else!. After completing my GCSE's. My parents were surprised to see that i had got a 'D' in art!!... They asked..Hows this possible?..to which i replied.."i was asked to draw fruit and veg as i see them in their natural state...so i drew them in Tesco packaging and frozen. As that's how i see them!". The art teacher was never keen on me and kept telling me to do things her way and would take the pencil off of me and start making adjustments on my work (unforgivable). I constantly fought this and discovered my own technique. I am now at a level where i run my own classes and guide people to help them discover their own techniques. Thank you for reading my story on illustration and how it helped me keep my sanity and helped me with my own discovery.
